1984 Outbreak of Streptococcus Infections at a Kansas City Hotel, Missouri

A hotel conference luncheon held on May 31,1984 in Missouri was linked to an outbreak of Group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus infections. Food-specific attack rates suggested macaroni salad or mousse as possible vehicles of transmission. The outbreak almost escaped detection, since the illness peaked after the conference had ended, and the participants had returned to their homes in seven states.
