On July 24, the public health departments of Linn and Johnson counties warned the public not to eat guacamole, salsa, or uncooked tamales prepared by La Reyna Supermarket & Taqueria. These products had been served at area farmers' markets in Iowa City, Coralville, Cedar Rapids, and Dubuque and also at the Waterfront Drive Hy-Vee, the New Pioneer Co-ops in Iowa City and Coralville, and at the Iowa City Jazz Festival. La Reyna Supermarket & Taqueria was in compliance with food code and previous prior "critical violations" were identified and corrected. None of the food bought and consumed directly through La Reyna Supermarket & Taqueria was linked to illness. Temperature abuse due to inadequate refrigeration and warm daytime temperatures likely led to bacterial growth in products sold at the farmers' markets.
