A prolonged outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg infections occurred at a Michigan nursing home. Staff and residents were infected. Cases began in June,1994, and continued sporadically through October,1995. Residents who had dementia were at higher risk of infection. A food vehicle was never identified, however raw foods were suspected as an initial source. The outbreak was spread by person-to-person transmission.
