Nine persons in an extended family consumed poisonous mushrooms at two separate meals. All nine became ill. A child died from multiple organ system failure. The family had picked the mushrooms in a local park in Ramsey County, and had not been aware of the potential danger. This family had immigrated to the USA and were of Hmong ethnicity. Previous incidents of mushroom toxicity were known in Minnesota and had also involved persons of Hmong ethnicity. Culturally appropriate educational campaigns were conducted in the Hmong community to prevent further illness and death.
