2006 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Newport Infections Linked to Tomatoes
A multistate outbreak occurred that was associated with eating raw tomatoes in restaurants. No single restaurant or restaurant chain was associated with this outbreak. The source of the implicated tomatoes was never determined. The strain of Salmonella Newport identified in this outbreak matched the Salmonella Newport strain that had been implicated in an outbreak involving tomatoes in 2005.
