2006 Outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium Infections Linked to Hard Cheese, Netherlands
In 2006, over 200 cases of a rare strain of Salmonella Typhimurium were detected in the Netherlands. It was phage type 561. Fifty one of these cases were eventually associated with eating hard cheese that had been purchased from a farm. Eating cheese from the farm or from the farm market stall were associated with infection. The Salmonella bacteria were found in the diary's production room.
