An outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 occurred among young children and adolescent staff of a day camp in Bergen County, New Jersey. E. coli O157:H7 isolates from case-patients matched genetically. The exact source of the outbreak was not determined, but poor handwashing and food handling practices were evident. The epidemic curve suggested a point source. Environmental and animal samples were all negative.
