2005 Outbreak of Illness Caused by Consuming Foraged Mushrooms, New York

A family who had hunted mushrooms was accidentally poisoned when they had eaten Omphalotus olearius, or Jack o'Lantern mushrooms, instead of the very similar looking chanterelles. The family picked the mushrooms from along a highway in Albany County, New York. Symptoms of mycotoxin poisoning began withing six hours; poison control was contacted. Two of the family members were hospitalized.
