1990 Outbreak of E. coli O111:NM Infections Among Family Members, Ohio
Members of an Ohio family became ill due to E. coli O111:NM. The first known illness was a child who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome. The presence of E. coli O111:NM was confirmed by blood tests and stool culture. The source of the infections was unknown. This was the first reported cluster of E. coli O111 infection known in North America.
