1996 Outbreak of Campylobacteriosis at a Restaurant, Oklahoma
The Jackson County Health Department, Oklahoma, investigated a cluster of Campylobacter jejuni infections that began between August 16 and 20. Basic food history questions indicated all the case-patients had eaten at a local restaurant. No specific food item was indicated. Interviews with the cook showed the potential for cross-contamination as the cook had cut raw chicken prior to making other dishes. She used the same dish towel to wipe her hands and knife throughout food preparation, and was unable to recall if she sanitized the preparation surface.
