1995 Outbreak of Salmonella Hartford and Salmonella Gaminara Infections Linked to Unpasteurized Orange Juice, Florida
Acidic foods were thought to be low risk vehicles for foodborne illness. Visitors to a Florida theme park who had consumed fresh, locally prepared, orange juice became ill due to Salmonellosis. The visitors were from 21 states. Salmonella Hartford and Salmonella Gaminara were isolated from the ill. Salmonella Gaminara was isolated from containers of orange juice produced during May and June indicating ongoing contamination of juice. It was likely that the processing equipment had been inadequately sanitized.
