2007 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Montevideo Linked to Live Poultry from New Mexico
A second, concurrent, outbreak of Salmonella Montevideo occurred throughout 2007 involving contact with poultry. The Salmonella Montevideo isolates from this outbreak were genetically different from the strain implicated in the other outbreak. (See 2007 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Montevideo Linked to Live Poultry.) Illnesses were attributed to contact with live poultry which had originated from hatcheries in New Mexico and Ohio. The outbreak strain of Salmonella Montevideo was isolated from an environmental sample collected from the New Mexico hatchery.
