1984 Outbreak of Intestinal Myiasis Linked to Over-Ripened Bananas, Washington
The mother of a 12 month old periodically observed "moving worms" in the child's stool. Fly larvae, specifically Muscina stabulans, were seen in each of two stool specimens collected on different days. The child had been fed over-ripened bananas, which were kept in a hanging wire basket in the kitchen. Flies were frequently observed on the bananas. No treatment was needed.
