1993 Multistate Outbreak of Norovirus Linked to Oysters
Twenty three clusters of ill persons infected with Norovirus were found in four states related to the consumption of oysters. Raw, or steamed oysters, were the only food found to be associated with illness. The oysters originated from the Grand Pass and Cabbage Reef harvesting areas off of the Louisiana coast. The oysters had been shipped to a total of fourteen states.
