2004 Outbreak of Salmonella Anatum Linked to Roast Beef, New York
In Wayayanda, New York, an outbreak of Salmonella Anatum was associated with eating roast beef at an annual community roast beef dinner held by the Silver Lake Fire Department. The food service volunteers had not been trained in food safety. Temperature control was not maintained. The beef juices draining from the spit had collected at room temperature over the course of a day and then were poured over ready-to-eat beef sandwiches.
