2009 Outbreak of Shigellosis at Rufus Putnam Daycare, Ohio

An outbreak of Shigella occurred among children and adults associated with the Rufus Putnam Daycare Center in Zanesville, Ohio. The cause of the outbreak was not stated. The food for the day care center was produced off site and was the same food prepared for other day care programs. None of the other day care programs that had received the food had any known cases of Shigella. The health department restricted children and staff with known, or suspected, Shigella infection from returning to the day care program until they no longer had diarrhea.
