An outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 in July and August, 2008 at a Boy Scout camp in Goshen, Virginia, was traced to contaminated hamburger meat. Investigations found that hamburger meat was produced and distributed by S & S Foods, LLC, of Azusa, California. E. coli O157:H7 isolated in ground beef was a genetic match to E. coli O157:H7 that was found in the ill scouts. As a result, S & S recalled 153,630 pounds of frozen ground beef products.
