1986 Multistate Outbreak of Vibrio Cholera Linked to Shellfish
Four persons in Louisiana, and one person in Florida, developed cholera after eating shellfish. The Louisiana case-patients had eaten crabs and shrimp harvested from the Louisiana coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The Florida case had eaten raw oysters of an unknown origen. Stool cultures from all five case-patients yielded Vibrio cholerae 01, serotype Inaba.
