A trichinellosis outbreak occurred in the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia among persons who had eaten pork sausage. The pork sausage was purchased through retail grocery stores that in turn had purchased the product from a local processing plant. The processing plant sold sausage throughout the Shenandoah Valley. The hogs were purchased from two brokers. The hogs orginated from multiple farms in Virginia and other states so could not be traced.
