2014 Outbreak of Shigella Infections at Zov's Restaurant, Irvine, California
On October 1, 2014 Health Care Agency of Orange County closed Zov's restaurant in Irvine due to reports of shigellosis in 6 customers. Ill restaurant patrons ate at Zov's over the course of six days between September 16-22. Three people were hospitalized. No one died. Health officials allowed Zov's to reopen late in the day on October 1 after the restaurant was sanitized and ready-to-eat food was discarded. Employees from other Zov locations were brought in to work at the Irvine location until the Irvine employees could be medically cleared by the health agency.
