2009 Multistate/Multiprovince Outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium Infections Linked to Taylor Farms Shredded Lettuce
Shredded lettuce sickened 145 people with Salmonella Typhimurium in the western states of the USA and at least 12 people in Canada. Shredded lettuce, possibly from quick-service restaurant locations, seemed the likely cause of the outbreak. A common supplier, Taylor Farms, was identified. Because the lettuce was shredded, there were many processing steps in the supply chain where contamination could have occurred. There were no recalls associated with the outbreak. Ill persons reported eating at one or more fast food restaurants. The outbreak did not appear to be associated with food purchased from grocery stores.
The cluster was assigned identification number 0907MLJPX-4.
