An outbreak of cyclosporiasis was reported among persons who ate a Texas restaurant on May 22, 1996. A history of eating a dessert was reported by all case-patients and only one of nine controls. The desserts had been garnished with fresh berries. No other food exposures were associated with illness. None of the case-patients reported a history of eating any berries other than strawberries. However, since some of the attendees were also served blackberries and raspberries on the dessert plates, it was possible that some case-patients ate these other berries.
