1983 Outbreak of Shigellosis at University Campuses Linked to Lettuce, Texas
Two, concurrent outbreaks of Shigella sonnei infections occurred on university campuses in Texas. Both universities purchased lettuce from the same distributor. The distributor obtained the lettuce from three states. The farm source was never determined and Shigella was never isolated from the lettuce.
