2006-2007 Outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg Infections at The Palms Dining and Banquet Facility, Arizona

An outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg infections was first noted in September 2006. The initial outbreak lasted from September 1 through October 15. This was followed by an outbreak from November 2 to December 22, 2006, and one from January 22 through March 8, 2007. Statistical analysis of food histories given by the case-patients indicated a single restaurant as the source of the infections, The Palms Dining and Banquet Facility. Public health personnel determined the Hard Iced Tea, prepared at the restaurant, as the likely vehicle of the infections. Salmonella Oranienburg was isolated from the outer surface of the tea machine. The restaurant was closed and was thoroughly sanitized prior to reopening. No subsequent cases occurred.
