2005 Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Infections Linked to Topps Brand Ground Beef, New York
A child was hospitalized with a diagnosis of hemolytic uremic syndrome, a complication of an infection with E. coli O157:H7. The child had eaten a Topps brand, quarter pound, beef patty that had been purchased at a Price Chopper store. The E. coli O157:H7 isolated from leftover hamburger patties was a genetic match to the E. coli O157:H7 that had been isolated from the child's stool.
