2004 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonellosis Linked to Turtles
In the summer of 2004, two states, Wyoming and Wisconsin, identified separate outbreaks of Salmonellosis associated with recent contact with small turtles. In Wisconsin four people were infected with Salmonella Pomona. In Wyoming the two cases were infected with Salmonella Typhimurium. The turtles had been purchased from pet stores and were of a size that had been banned from commercial distribution since 1975.
