2007 Multistate Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Infections Linked to United Food Group Ground Beef
An outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections occurred in western states as a result of eating contaminated ground beef products produced by United Food Group, LLC. The ground beef had been sold under a variety of brand names. The meat was produced in April 2007. E. coli O157:H7 was isolated in a ground beef sample; the same strain of E. coli O157:H7 was isolated from case-patients. The initial ground beef recall in June was for 75,000 pounds. Within five days, the recall was expanded to include 370,000 pounds of ground beef.
