2009 Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Infections Linked to Valley Meats, LLC Ground Beef 2009, Ohio
On May 21, The Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) recalled 95,898 pounds of Valley Meats, LLC, ground beef produced on March 10. A girl from Ohio died from an E. coli O157:H7 infection; her illness was likely linked to meat served at a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) restaurant. The Ohio Department of Health discovered a cluster of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses and reported these to the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) on May 13. An epidemiologic investigation of the cases implicated ground beef.
