An outbreak of norovirus occurred among persons traveled on the Washington State Dinner Train in 1992. The outbreak was attributed to eating the pear dessert. One cook was ill on the day that the patrons were exposed. The other cook became ill the next day. There was no running water on the train; the cooks used bottled water to rinse hands which was not adequate for cleaning.
