An outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections occurred in West Virginia. Multi-locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) confirmed that the isolates of Salmonella serotype Enteritidis obtained from 11 cases were identical. Epidemiologic analysis associated illness with eating at multiple locations of a single chain restaurant.

The laboratory studies concluded that the Salmonella Enteritidis was identical to the Salmonella Enteritidis isolated during an investigation of a multi-county outbreak in June 2009, which was also found to be associated with multiple locations of the same chain restaurant.
