2007 Outbreak of Listeriosis Linked to Whittier Farms Pasteurized Milk, Massachusetts
In November, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) was notified of a fifth case of Listeria monocytogenes associated with consumption of milk from Whittier Farms. This prompted an investigation of the dairy associated with the farm. Listeria was found in the milk at a patient home, in environmental samples from the dairy, and other milk samples taken from the dairy. While the dairy's equipment met current standards, the dairy did not have adequate monitoring. Contamination of product likely occurred after pasteurization.
